The Defect
AAn awakened automaton of unknown origin. Channels Orbs — Lightning, Frost, Dark, and Plasma — amplified by Focus scaling. The least changed character from the original game, offering reliable mechanical depth through Orb management and zero-cost card spam. JapaneseExport notes Defect's orb system excels in fights that allow setup time, and the current game doesn't punish slow setup enough — making Defect feel slightly too strong.
Build Archetypes
Claw/Zero-Cost
ASpam zero-cost attacks to build up Claw's permanent damage counter. Every time any Claw is played across all copies, every Claw in every zone gains +2 damage. All for One recalls all 0-cost cards from the discard pile in a single play, enabling explosive burst turns from a thin deck.
Creative AI
BGenerate a random Power card each turn via Creative AI, then trigger Storm and Subroutine off every Power played. When it assembles, the engine generates Lightning Orbs and energy continuously. Niche — only viable if Creative AI appears in Act 1 or early Act 2. At A10, the randomness makes this inconsistent compared to Frost Focus; treat it as a secondary option when Creative AI drops early.
Orb/Focus
SScale Focus to amplify all Orb passive effects. JapaneseExport confirms 'Frost Focus is still the best thing to do' for Defect. In STS2, temporary Focus from Synchronize is the main scaling tool — you cannot just press end turn and let permanent Focus carry. Frost Orbs provide massive Block, Lightning Orbs deal chip damage amplified by Focus, and Dark Orbs grow into fight-ending nukes.
